For more than a century, life at Casas na Ferraria has been shaped by the land.

Since 1922, generations have cultivated, restored and cared for this place, transforming what was once raw and arid terrain into a living landscape rooted in biodiversity, hospitality and quiet regeneration.

Today, Casas na Ferraria continues that legacy, a family farm heritage where nature, nourishment and genuine rest remain deeply intertwined.

The Story of Casas na Ferraria

Casas na Ferraria began as a working farm acquired in 1922 by Alexandre’s great-grandfather, long before the bridge connecting Lisbon to the south existed.

What started as an ambitious agricultural project gradually evolved across four generations into something far greater than a productive estate. The land was cultivated with patience and vision planting trees, raising animals and building biodiversity where little once existed.

Rather than reinvent the place, the vision has always been to regenerate it honoring the past while creating a new form of conscious hospitality grounded in silence, nature and genuine care.

Over the last fifteen years, the restoration of the estate has carefully preserved this heritage while opening the houses to contemporary living, Portuguese architecture and the relationship between the buildings and the surrounding landscape remain at the heart of Casas na Ferraria today.

Across the estate, the vegetable gardens continue to grow with the seasons, supplying the houses and retreats with organic produce cultivated directly from the land. Aromatic herbs, seasonal vegetables and new orchards flourish under regenerative principles designed to strengthen biodiversity and soil health.

More than 300 olive trees were recently planted across the estate, continuing a long relationship with cultivation, regeneration and care for future generations.

New life also continues to arrive at the farm, with chickens now part of the estate once again, a simple yet meaningful continuation of the estate’s agricultural heritage.

To walk through Ferraria today is to experience a living landscape, where cultivation, nature and hospitality remain deeply connected.
